Assimilation and Accommodation

When you think of these two word, I think about people adapting to one another. Jean Piaget came up with these words, who is a developmental psychologist. We need to define these two words to understand the differences between the two.
Assimilation-  The process whereby a minority group gradually adopts the customs and attitudes of the prevailing culture.

Accommodation- Adjustment, as of differences or to new circumstances; adaptation, settlement, or reconciliation.

Both of these words cultures and other races adapt to these. When they come to another culture they accommodate to the differences. Also, when they come into another culture they assimilate to the customs and the way the culture lives as a whole.

Treatment Plan Change

For our message we decided to change our message to "Change Happens" which I think is a very good message for assimilation. Since people assimilate to other cultures their changing their view on what they see. Change is always happening, and there's no way to stop this, so it happens and get over it.

Now for our audience we decided to narrow it down to 18-30 years old who are involved with rethinking race. I'm still not sure if this is a strong audience, it may still be to broad but  we'll see! ;)

Treatment and Multiculturalism

Today our treatment plan is due. Hopefully it is understandable, and our idea comes across in it. Also, I have to write a paper about Multiculturalism which I want to define before starting my paper.

Multiculturalism is the appreciation, acceptance or promotion of multiple ethnic cultures, applied to the demographic make-up of a specific place, usually at the organizational level, e.g. schools, businesses, neighborhoods, cities or nations.

I think this topic for my paper fits in well with my groups concept for out video. Which is media's past and present influence on people and assimilate to these views.

I can't wait to we finally start this project, and have a more clear view on our project too! :)

Rethinking Race Project

For this semester me and my group the Exquisite Corpse, were making a video about assimilation within the media, music, and fashion. It's mostly about how the media effects our views on the race and the relationships between the two.
I think this project will be interesting but we'll see how we progress. Our genera is Art Experimental Cinema, so it's going to be artsy fartsy! ;) I think it should be interesting as I said before. We have a group meeting today to figure out the gist of things, so hopefully we'll have a more clear understanding on what were going to do.
